We’re delighted to share that Harold White Family Funeral Directors is now a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), the largest and longest-established trade organisation in the UK funeral profession.
There’s no legal requirement for a funeral director to belong to the NAFD, or to any organisation at all. But independent scrutiny of how a funeral home actually operates is something every family ought to be able to take for granted, and membership is simply how we make sure they can.
For many years, we’ve been proud members of SAIF, the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, which champions independent family firms like ours. Joining the NAFD adds a second, separate layer of accountability: a national organisation, alongside the voice of the independents, both holding us to a strict code of practice.
Why it’s not as simple as signing up
Membership isn’t something you can simply pay for. Before we could join, we had to demonstrate that we were already fully compliant with the Competition & Markets Authority’s pricing and transparency rules, satisfy the requirements of the NAFD’s Funeral Director Code, and agree to ongoing, independent inspection of the way we work. We were glad to. These are exactly the standards we’d want any family to be able to expect of us.
What it means for the families we care for
For the families in our care, our membership brings real, practical reassurance. Our standards of care are now independently checked, rather than simply taken on trust. And should anything ever fall short, you have access to NAFD Resolve, an independent dispute resolution service that sits entirely outside our business.
“We know that in recent years, some families have been badly let down by the very people they turned to at their lowest point. That kind of trust should never be taken lightly, and it’s why being open and accountable matters so much to us.
We want families to be able to see exactly how we work, and welcoming the independent scrutiny of both the NAFD and SAIF is simply our way of showing them they can have complete confidence in the care they receive.”

We’re proud to take our place among the thousands of funeral homes that make up the NAFD, and prouder still of what it represents: a profession willing to hold itself to account, in the service of the families who need it most.
